I'd give this game 10 stars if I could! We've been waiting 9 months for a game like this!
We got our Wii for Christmas last year, and each of our kids got a game. My then 6-year-old daughter got Pet Dogz2 -- BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY EVER!! She hated it from day one. She wanted a game with animals that she could dress up and play games with, Pet Dogz2 was NOT it. And she hasn't found anything that's fit the bill since. Until now.
She's now 7 years old and Littlest Pet Shop is her dream come true for Wii. She gets to pick out the pet she wants, dress it up, name it, walk it around the "town," and play games with it to earn Kibble which she can then use to buy other pets and items (clothes, toys, etc) for her pets.
If your daughter likes animal games, Littlest Pet shop toys, Webkinz, etc. I can't recommend this game enough! |
Great Transition from toy to game!

I bought this game for my 9 year old daughter for her birthday. After I gave it to her I didn't see her for quite awhile. She is still heavily playing it after several days. Her 11 year old sister likes it too. The pets are adorable like the toys and the animation is wonderful. You unlock pets and mini games and items as you go along through the game. This game has a lot of variety. My daughter enjoys the coloring game. You play the games and get awarded ribbons and kibbles as points. There seem to be quite a few games to keep the kids interested. You can name the pets as you unlock them and try to collect them all. New locations are unlocked too. I would recommend this no fighting, non violent kids game, especially if your kids are or were into the Littlest Pet Shop toys. There are play sets to play on and different areas to explore. It's a neat little game that employs many different challenges and activities in a fun atmosphere.
If I ever get the chance I am going to spend some time playing it too! |
Surprisingly FUN!

The Littlest Pet Shop game trilogy for the Nintendo DS are all fairly similiar. They likely have "exclusive" pets to each system or whatnot, but all three levels - garden, jungle and winter - are unlockable in every version. So you really only need the one. The pet plaza is where you will be spending most of your time, as it is the central hub for buying tickets for pets to come join your menagerie, buying playsets to unlock more mini games and other activities.
Graphics are sweet, cute and fitting for the Littlest Pet Shop. The characters look like pet shop animals which is a real plus for fans of the franchise. Most of the action takes place in the "worlds" which are nice looking but a bit busy. Its sometimes hard to pick out certain interactive objects from the busy backgrounds (such as the sign that takes you to other worlds). The pets themselves are animated nicely, with horses that neigh and bunnies that hop. They can be moved between the four levels whenever you like after you unlock them. The pets can be dressed up with accessories, renamed and you can pet them/feed them, the very minimal of virtual pet upkeep, which leaves time for other things.
Such as minigames!! You unlock a variety of mini games just by playing. So far, my daughter (who is four) her favorites are the balloon pop mini game (throw darts at balloons), the nut mini game (tap nuts to keep them from hitting your animal friends), and the matching one (match up blocks of colors with animal faces). There's also a coloring one, but it only has about a dozen different pictures, kind of disappointing. There are some mini games that would appeal to older children as well. A few mini games are utter rubbish such as their attempt at a "rhythm-music" mini game that fails on so many levels...
In fact, the entire game demands alot of reading for playing on one's own, and the game seems more suited to the 6 and up crowd, but younger children will have fun just moving the animals around and trying their hand at the mini games.
Overall, its a much more solid offering than one would expect from a licensed title, and given how much kids love the Littlest Pet Shop brand, it would have been an easy copout to slap together a game and call it a day (and watch the sales rack up). However, alot of thought has gone into making this an authentic "Littlest Pet Shop" experience, and thus gets a high recommendation from both myself and my daughter. |
Lots of fun for my little 5 year old girl

My little 5 year old daughter used to fight with her 8 year old brother for the gameboy. Eventually we bought her her own - but she never seemed to enjoy the games as much as her brother. Many DS games are too hard for little kids and most involve reading. Lately my daughter has been playing with littlest pet shop toys so it seemed like a really likely choice for a DS game she would enjoy all on her own. Sure enough it keeps her interest and she really enjoys it. Littlest Pet Shop: Winter has reading - so little ones will need some help getting started. But there are lots of simple activities and games well pitched to small children that hold their interest once they get in such as
* pick and name and dress up a bunch of littlest pets
* Coloring (a game where points (kibble) are awarded for how closely you can match the example). Not only do little ones have to stay in the lines, they must pick colors and pen widths from a simple menu.
* Treasure hunt (you move around over a little meadow and dig looking for easter eggs.
* lots more - and more games and new pets are unlocked as kids work their way through.
The graphics are really nice and the overall tone is sweet, nice, and non-violent.

| My daughter got this game for her 6th birthday and she loves it. She has been playing My Sims and enjoying it but this is perfect for a young girl. She loves to play dress up, so being able to dress her pets, buy them pretty things, and name them is pure joy for her. She needs some help with reading now and again (and spelling the new pets names) but otherwise she does just fine playing this game. She has figured alot of things out without my help, how to feed and pet them, unlock worlds which has given her a sense of satisfaction. This game would drive me insane but for a young girl it seems to perfect. |
